If you design audio amplifier (to match transistors) or if you repair electronic boards you need it.
advantages: It can test the majority of semiconductors. It finds the pinout of all components it can analyse.
It is interresting for design with JFET (Id vs Vgs).
drawback: the current is limited to around 10mA, it doesn't recognize unijonction transistor or SIC MOS transistor.
